Three Musicians

This is Three Musicians by Pablo Picasso.  It was completed in 1921. The 3 figures are a harlequin, a pierrot, and a monk, who are believed to represent Picasso and two of his close friends; Guillaume Apollinaire, and Max Jacob. This piece is an example of synthetic cubism and, like all cubist pieces, resembles the inside of a kaleidoscope, which is sommething I love about this style.

  1. this piece looks very playful to me. the orange yellow and blue in this really make is seem bright and happy. synthetic cubism is so creative to me because at a glance it looks like a bunch of interlocking shapes overlapping but when you break it down it actually creates an image

  2. I agree, Ranisha. I love the choices of color - it appears whimsical and warm. It gives the feeling that I might have if I was with my close friends.

  3. even tho they don't have realistic shapes you can tell that they are two people playing instruments.

  4. I see three musicians on the left is a clarinet player, in the middle a guitar player, and on the right a singer with sheets of music. It feels like the musicians are performing in a small stage or box like area.

  5. this piece has a very interesting feel to me, kind of fun like me going to a poetry night or a jazz place downtown with some friends or family, usually with Picasso not only am I confused, but I feel depressed or get a creepy feeling from his work.
